Orchiata -- where to buy?
Default Orchiata -- where to buy?

I have repotted my newest orchids into Orchiata and so far I really like it. Would like to eventually move nearly everything into Orchiata at their next re-pots. If you use Orchiata, where do you buy it? It is expensive and if you d make the investment to use it extensively, it would be nice to find a source for larger bags. Anyone know of a good place to get this in somewhat larger quantities?

You don't say where you are located. One source is CalWest Tropical Supply, located near Sacramento, CA.
Orchid supplies, orchid potting mixes, spaghnum moss, neem oil, humidity trays and more

If you are a member of an orchid society near you, they may be able to help. My own club makes an annual purchase of Orchiata to get a better price per bag.

Thanks for the suggestions! I am upstate NY so I guess I should focus on places near here as the shipping is so expensive.

Yes, finding a local source will save you a bunch of money! Good luck.

I'm not sure what your definition of "somewhat larger quantities" is, but I first bought Orchiata from this place:

Bark - Orchiata Orchid Bark - Page 1 - Orchid Supply Store

I only needed the 1 gallon size, but it comes in 2 1/2 gallon and 10 gallon sizes. Prices are reasonable, IMO, but of course the shipping adds to it.

When I was running out recently, I ended up buying it from a different vendor (only because I needed some other supplies that OSS doesn't carry) and realized too late that I was paying around four times the price that Orchid Supply Store charges. I won't make that mistake again.

I have Amazon Prime, a good deal to me (it seems). I am a master's degree student and Amazon sells Prime to students for half price, so my cost is about 50$ per year, after 1 year free. This of course, makes using Amazon a great deal for me because I am in a small town and really do not have very many choices as far as stores. We have a lowes, and that is all. I have only bought the super small orchiata for my paphs which I plant in combined orchiata and lecca. So I buy it on Amazon because no shipping costs for me.

Kelley's Korner Orchid Supplies in NH is a great place to get all your orchid supplies. They go to most of the major shows so you can save 10% & shipping if you order ahead. Check out their website to see the list of events they will be attending. Happy growing.
