Should I immediately repot a newly purchase orchid? Female
Default Should I immediately repot a newly purchase orchid?

As per Philip's suggestion in another thread, I am planning on purchasing a P. cochleata soon. I'm thinking I will purchase from Marlow's, as they're in NY and I'm in OH; less risks of transport damage, being closer.

I will call to verify, but says they are Potted in 3" pot; can purchase bloom size or already in bloom. (I assume Not in bloom yet would be ideal, in order to avoid extra shock getting used to my space vs greenhouse?)

But when I receive the orchid, should I immediately repot it? (I will have large grade Orchiata on hand, as my other orchids seem to like this grade and it has a good drying out rate for my environment).

Thanks

I do not think that it would hurt to re-pot this one immediately. The orchid puts out new pseudobulbs throughout the year and this is the growing season. The ones that take care when re-potting are the orchids that only have a single flush of growth each year or ones that are sensitive to being re-potted at the wrong time, when new growth has not started (certain Cattleyas and Dendrobiums, for example).

Here is some information on it:

Thanks, guys! Then that's the plan. Fresh new Orchiata for the gal when I get to ordering her and seeing her in person 👍🏻

I'll keep everyone posted.
