Fine sand works well for plants that like to be wet for a few days, then dry out for a long time. For example, certain cacti and other desert plants.

its more coarse than fine and doesnt hold much water a day at most.

I would want media that is at least 5 to 10 mm in diameter. Mine is much more for Phrags. It is fine bark for Paphs. But give it a try and let us know.

The white silica sand sold at building supply stores in the US is about as fine as table sugar, and holds water a long time.

i bought a bag of "pool filter sand" here to use in my fish tank,been adding some to my pot plant mixtures.will try a little experiment with it and see how it goes,im still killing my cyms with overwatering
