Help!!! Repotting a Oncidium Orchid infested with snails!

Hello everyone,

2 days ago, I repotted my orchids and saw some snails in the root (that's why one of the pseudobulbs rotted). I removed the rotted one, took out the snails and spray the orchid roots with Hydrogen peroxide.
Then I repotted it with new medium. I don't know if I buried the pseudobulbs too deep into the medium. One of the old pseudobulbs was sinked into the medium, and only 1/3 of it was above the ground. Is it ok or I have to take out some of the medium to prevent rotting bulb?

Welcome to OrchidBoard
It is better to have the pseudobulb on top of the media so I would pull it up out of the media.

Thank you very much guys. I pulled it up out the media already. Also the rotted bulb was removed. Finger crossed. Hopefully my orchid will be fine. I really love it, it bloomed twice this year.

Are they bush snails (tiny little things)? If so, you're going to have to hit the plant with VERY harsh chemicals to get rid of them. Also, never spray hydrogen peroxide on your plants. You've likely done some damage to the plant because of it. I usually spray my pests with rubbing alcohol (neither alcohol, nor hydrogen peroxide will do much to combat snails) and didn't realize that my wife had bought me hydrogen peroxide instead. I lost a bunch of plants this year and saw major die back of the grass I grow for my cat to eat after spraying with peroxide.

I am always puzzled at the use of hydrogen peroxide. It is an indiscriminate oxidiser, destroying plant tissue as much as pests.

For snails, well, that's why god gave us snail pellets. A garnish of those will completely rubber duck the snails. I shudder to think how many kilos I use a year. Some now as the autumn rains come, but much more in the spring. It's that or lose most of the plants in the garden..

I think Sevin kills these bush snails. Several years ago, I had some insect issue (ants?) and to make certain that the wormwood had gotten rid of it all, I sprinkled Sevin on the surface of my larger pots. The next day, there were dead bush snails all over the top of the soil. I am not a big fan of Sevin but it does seem to kill quite a few pests (not spidermites, though...they like the stuff).

I really dislike bush snails...they really can attack the roots of orchids and the new leaf shoots of other plants.

With the bush snails you have actually douse them in the chemicals because they're not attracted to bait! Which means you have to dunk the whole plant in a chemical soup like sevin, or others!

Can you just submerge the whole plant underwater for a few hours and drown them or force them up?
