Turock, interesting idea! Just curious how you water them, and do you do anything different when spikes start to form, or you want to display a blooming plant?

It's actually quite simple - I just have a bucket filled with water, I take the plant off (the rope attached to the bottle neck has a little hook attached to it), turn it right side up and pop it into the bucket, let it soak for as long as needed (sometimes even longer, I do forget about them frequently ). You take them out, let water drain and hang them - any residual water runs down the leaves and is nice and dry by night time. This was actually an experiment for me, because crown rot killed my previous phals, and I have to say it really works for me.
