Growing Disas in hanging bags!
Growing Disas in hang-bags is a great way to grow your plants. The upsides of this method is that watet keeps moving through the bag and potting media, by pouring a cup of pure water on the bag daily. It also has a very good airflow to the roots.
When yiu decide to make the bags you will need the following, peat-moss, silica-sand, and old silk-socks. I usually use 2parts peat, 2parts sand and a bit of Spagnum-moss; mix the parts equally together. Cut the socks just above the thigh. I fill the sock with about a litre of media; make it into a nice ball. Make a knot just above the ball. I also usually put a onion-bag around the sock, to make the bag stronger.
Wet the bag by dipping it in water before planting. Try to plant them as one year old seedlings or 5cm large; in spring. Pick the plants out, make a 3x3 cm hole in the bag, gently place it in the hole and fill again. Place up to 3 plants in a bag. Do it in spring when they have a growth spurt.
Ropotting will only need to be done every 4 years. Pick out any ferns growing in the mix as there roots will smother the disas. Workds for all evergreen Disas
