Yes the newest bulbs have healthy roots and growing root tips. Im trying to exercise restraint to not over water. Seeing the shriveled bulbs is making me want to give it a constant bath!

Most the time after they are shriveled, they don't go back to normal so ignore them. I go more by the roots.

Not being there, it is difficult to know what is happening, exactly. But, generally, it is either a case where your roots have rotted or are not being watered well enough and the orchid cannot replace the water it is losing from evaporation. My Burana Beauty does need a little more water than some of the other Cattleyas I grow but I grow my Burana Beauty in LECA and a basket pot so the mix is fast draining and plenty of air gets to the roots to prevent them from rotting.
When growing plants, I always try to keep in mind how they grow in their natural environment. Cattleyas tend to grow either attached to trees or cliffs, roots very much exposed to the air. The medium for Cattleyas, therefore, is mainly to keep the air around the roots a little more humid. The roots are adapted to being exposed to the air so air must be able to reach the roots easily.

With how quickly it was deteriorating, i unpotted it to find all the older roots have died. I suspect they were on theyre way out being in the broken down disgusting media before. I repotted back with a good layer of packing peanuts on the bottom and large bark on top and staked it. Hopefully it will make a full recovery as all the new roots look plump and actively growing.

Good luck with your Cattleya. I think your mix might have been too fine with the size of the pot that you used. The great thing about Cattleyas is that they are very easy to rescue, and the easiest of all are the ones, like Burana Beauty, that grow new pseudobulbs multiple times a year.
