Not enough medium between roots?
Default Not enough medium between roots?

Good evening Everybody,

I was away for a couple of months and asked my friend to look after my plants. She told me that during my leave she accidentally over watered my Phal and saw that some of the roots started rotting, so she repotted it.
I took a closer look without removing the Phal from its pot and saw that there appears to be little potting medium between the ..how should I say this ...Inner roots? The plant isn't wobbly in the pot or anything, but as it had many roots, my friend did not bother to put media between the roots, she just poured the media over and around it and probably shook the pot once or twice to settle the media.. I'm not sure if I should leave it like this. Near the bottom you can see through the pot if you look closely.. What do you think?
I was thinking of re potting it but it still has flowers and a new spike that is growing beautifully. I'm afraid if I re pot it it's going to do more harm than good.
Should I just leave it?

Thank you and have a nice evening!

Extra air space around the roots is probably not a bad thing. I'd leave it as-is to avoid more disturbance to the roots, but if your growing conditions become dry and the plant starts showing signs of dehydration, you can probably work some fresh medium carefully down in the spaces you are seeing.

You do not say what the potting medium is. If it is bark, simply tap opposing sides of the pot simultaneously with your hands or fists and gently "bounce" the pot on a hard surface. This should "vibrate" the bark in between the roots and it the easiest way to get the bark settled. Add more bark on top if necessary and press down.
