So I was repotting this NoID Phal this morning, and found this little guy starting just below the substrate level
Its still hard to be 100% sure until it has pushed out a little bit more, but it may be a second spike!

I've never known a second spike to start from below an existing one, so keep us informed to what it is.
I have a phal flowering now and a second spike is starting in the node above. Its been like that with all my phals.

I'm just as skeptical I repotted it prematurely because it was given to me in a non draining glass vase. I've been enjoying the blooms for about 2 months now, so I decided it was worth uprooting it to check the root health. It was marginal. All of the roots were packed into a fist sized ball of sphag wrapped in a plastic bag. Luckily I only lost about 4 good roots and kept about 6-7 (so far). I'll be happy just to keep the blooms that are on it and let it grow some new roots, but I wouldn't scoff at a second spike

Upon closer inspection with a magnifying glass, the tip of the new growth is pointed up, and is flat (ish) across the apex rather than conical. If not a spike, basal growth maybe? I've only ever owned one other Phal and its been knocking on deaths door for about 6 months now. *shrugs*

I was also speculating on that possibly being a basal growth ... doesn't really look like a root, does it? Keep us updated, please?
