I have been staining redwood slat baskets using a Cabot brand, semi transparent, oil (linseed/alkyd) stain that was formulated for use on outdoor decks. The baskets look nice for a longer period of time when I do this.
To prolong the life of the basket, plus allow it to be stained or painted.
Thanks Laserbeak... makes sense.
I am always trying something else, usually before anything has a chance to rot, etc. But also likely may not have either the same orchids as you, or less orchids to worry about.
Thank you for the response... and I still wouldn't use shellac. Just because I'm old enough to know it doesn't mix well with water.
