repotting a phal
Default repotting a phal

I've had a phal since October that I was planning to repot after it finished blooming because the moss that it's planted in looks really old. But now it's spiking again about a month after the last flower dropped... can I repot now or will the spike not continue to develop? It doesn't have any buds yet. Thanks!

For the most part, phals are pretty tough. I've repotted them while in bloom and the worst thing that happened, was I lost a flower.

I don't know if they should or should not be repotted while developing a new spike. I would think that it wouldn't cause any harm and that the biggest worry would be clumsy human hands, breaking the spike.

Hopefully someone else will chime in so we can both learn something today.

I've repotted when a new spike was developing before and had no problems, the spike still bloomed.

It is possible it could stall the spike, but it's often worth repotting so you are looking after the plant.
