Just to add, instead of cutting apart a plant that is growing asymmetrically you might want to first try keiki paste on the eyes or nodes or whatever of the part that isn't growing the way you'd like it to.
My results with keiki paste has been mixed at best, but some people swear by it.
Also , if you do try to cut, make sure that both parts have at least several healthy growths with leaves, not just back bulbs. It takes energy to start growing!
