Default What bark and moss for phals?

I need to do some repotting and would like to know what bark is recommended and what bark to avoid.

Also, I'm going to experiment. I'm into aquariums with live plants. I would like to try mounting a phal or two to a piece of wood for wicking water from the tank up. Again, I know not all woods are phal friendly. What to avoid, what may work and what type of moss would be good to include in the mounting?

Wouldn't you know I was unable to find the pic I had showing the concept.

Use fir bark, usually marketed as orchid bark in the big-box store garden centers. Any of these will do. A kind marketed as orchiata bark is longer-lasting and quite good, but the trade-off is that it is harder to find and more expensive. For Phalaenopsis, I would avoid "Phalaenopsis mix".

I think that what you are suggesting with the wood and aquarium probably will not work; evaporation would likely concentrate salts (dissolved solids) on the wood, harming the roots.

There is a countless number of orchids killed by too much of experimenting.
If the plant has done well so far and needs repotting, take a good fir bark or orchiata medium and a similar container as before, and don't change too much.

Default securing phal in tree

I will be up north for eight weeks and would like to secure my phals in a tree while I am gone. They grow well in a pot with the orchid bark mix. Can I use the Spanish moss as a cradle for the bark and orchid instead of the pot and carefully tie it to a shady crook of a tree? I could not find or order the wooden slatted baskets in time. Thank you.
