Pot cleaning in dishwasher

ok - this may seem like eeeeww, but it actually worked very well. I got a lot of 2nd hand pots - too many to clean individually. I scrubbed one with a brush to get rid of loose grime and then stuck it in the dishwasher, top shelf, on an anti-bacterial setting........and it came out almost as good as new !
Now for the rest !
BTW - these are sturdy plastic. Haven't tried any other type.

I always clean my pots in the dishwasher ! Works like a charm

If these have not been used previously for orchids, this type of washing is fine. However, it will not disinfect them for virus. Water is not hot enough and virus is not affected by a bactericide. You will need to soak in a 5% solution of Clorox.

I've done it with clay pots, didn't think twice about it.

Side note 1:
As was stated in the first post: Get all the dirt and grime off of them before putting in the dishwasher, or you will soon destroy your dishwasher

Side note 2:
Cascade dish soap contains a chlorine bleach. I wouldn't wash my dishes without that.

Side note 3:
The "Sani Wash" cycle does in fact heat the water to kill bacteria and virus.

Side note 4:
If you want to be on the safe side, soak your pots in a 10% bleach solution after washing them in the dishwasher. Although I don't know that it's necessary

Sorry, but that's an urban myth. Your dishwasher is not an autoclave, so cannot possibly heat the water above 212°F, so it is not capable of using temperature to guarantee killing all bacteria and viruses.

Let me add that I am not against using the dishwasher to clean pots (unless my wife catches me), but it just isn't truly disinfecting by itself.

I never used the dishwasher, but I'd like to try. Pot cleaning is a pain. Good thing bleach is cheap.

My aunt loves flowers and she has a lot of different types, they all grow in flower beds and pots. Sometimes she asks me to help her transplant flowers, and the pots end up having to be washed. One day she bought a new dishwasher on the Internet and then an idea came to me. After all, you can wash pots in the dishwasher and not get your hands dirty again. We tried it, and I can say that the result is quite good and now my aunt always washes the pots in the dishwasher
