Default Mounting on Branches

I have acquired quite a lot of individually mounted orchids, and wanted to compile them onto a couple of branches. Any thoughts/recommendations on best woof types for look/functionality/longevity. I have quite a variety of tree species to choose from living here in the Pacific Northwest, but want the best bang for my harvesting troubles :-)

Stating the obvious and bumping your thread, I would pick plants with the same horticultural requirements. They don't all have to be Phalaenopsis or for that matter, all orchids. I've seen displays of different orchids with different bloom features. I have seen a branch planted with different orchids but have the same bloom style. A friend of mine set up a display where he had different plants that bloomed at different times of the year.

Opps, I misunderstood. You were asking for "woof" to use. I have seen all kinds of wood used to mount orchids. The wood I see used most often is cypress, or for that matter, probably any wood could be used that would last a long time.

Madrona would probably look nice and last a long time.

I've done this with Tolumnias (see pic). I started with three but the top one didn't make it. Yes, I know that eventually the Tollies will overrun this mount. I started with a piece of wood that I got at a shop and added the base with an aluminum screws (no rust). I selected Tolumnias since they were a) inexpensive (maybe $10 a piece) ; 2) they were in bloom at the same time when I bought them; 3) they thrive on getting dry FAST; and 4) they are a cute as can be.

I mounted these last spring and as you can see there is good root attachment, but only one has spiked. I might replace the third one at the top, but I might not.

I saw a entire "tree" of Tolumnias at an orchid nursery once with about 50 plants. It is what inspired me.
