Has anyone bought a piece of cedar from like Home Depot and chopped it up or shredded it to use as the sole media? If so what did you use to chop or shred?

you can buy the cedar shingles at home depot or lowes, cut them with a circular saw or whatnot and use it like that...good luck!

Do you mean for mounting onto (Dounoharm has your answer) or as potting media? As media, the closest I know of is Gorilla Hair. It's shredded redwood, sold in bulk as mulch. I'd like to try the stuff but can't get small quantities without exorbitant shipping cost.

ETA: ironic since the stuff originates just north of here.

Just as media. I was also thinking about the bags of cedar mulch but wasn't sure about using it.

I didn't think about using shingles. I just have a cedar picket. You know like you would use for fencing in your yard. Was trying to think how I could cut that into hunks or pieces.
