Phals mounted on wood baskets
Default Phals mounted on wood baskets

I did all three in the wood baskets.
Used a little sphagnum moss underneath the plant.

I think maybe I should have used more on top because the zip ties are right on some parts of the roots but they aren't tight, just enough to hold the Phal in place.

I hung them on the window gate, where I will watch and see how the roots develop.

On the table are my Miltonia Bert Field, which I got off the discount rack, a cane from a new Dend that had roots and fell off while I was re potting. So I stuck it in some bark, and a Dend flower spike that finished blooming and I cut it off and put it in water and it still lets off fragrance!

In back of that (shade) my 3 rescue mini Phals which are next to be mounted. They were on the discount rack and totally waterlogged in ceramic containers.

I have one phal that's been in a wood basket for three years and it's done well. It does need frequent watering though.

Thanks Tucker! I'm letting them dry out a bit as I had just watered yesterday, and their bark was still wet. As soon as they dry and sort of become accustomed to being 'bare rooted' I'll start the watering. I think they're going to do well too Fingers crossed.

I have a bitter orange tree in my yard. Do you think I could use a couple of small branches for the minis? I was going to buy smaller pots but I'm thinking they may outgrow them, as I've heard that they sometimes revert to original size?

The first one I got, it's leaves are already looking suspiciously large....Whaddayathink?

Mini what? Phals? If you're talking about mounting them on a tree, I don't know, I've never done that.

They're mini Phals. I was thinking of cutting a few small branches to use as mounts for them. It's a Bitter Orange tree.
