Default Mounting Dendrobium aggregatum on Clay Pot

I want to mount this aggregatum directly around the top portion of this vintage and very patinated clay pot. It is currently on some thick cork that must go away. I'm wondering how to get the cork separated from the roots that grow even all over the back of the mount. Guess I'll have to develop some surgical skills here.

It is always hard, but the only trick I know is to really soak the roots well before you start to remove it, it really helps.

The only way I can think is soaking as well, even then you could get root damage. Taking a plant off an existing mount is always hard unless the mount is already falling to pieces.

work from the back of the mount, cutting carefully in small areas to gradually reduce the thickness of the mount. I use a pair of bonsai shears for this. Keep soaking the mount to soften it, you should be able to get it down to a thin skin. You can then mount it on your pot leaving a minimum of cork which you can remove as it breaks down.

Ok, so I did it. It wasn't pretty removing the plant from the mount. Soaked it good, got some roots loose, but truthfully a lot of roots got ripped. Gotta keep it well watered and babied for a while. Here in South Florida probably have a couple of months of active growing left before it will want to "rest". Hope new roots get going soon! I can imagine when it blooms it will beard down the side of the pot and will look awesome. Its a plan anyway.
