Potting mix for Encyclia Radiata?
So today I bought an encyclia radiata and in my haste I forgot to ask about it's watering needs. Should I repot it in a medium that will keep it moist for a while or should it dry off quickly?
Does it have the same culture as encyclia cochleata?
Thanks guys!

Can you post a picture of the plant just for general curiosity. Umm I am not familiar with the type of plant, but someone else will help you I am sure.

Sure, sometime during the weekend as soon as I get a chance to photograph it.

I don't grow either, but radiata is a "cockle shell" type, like cochleata - both now in genus "Anacheilium", with the other cockle shell types.

I would suppose culture to be similar - I am sure others can be more help.

It is in the genus of Prosthechea and it likes to have a drying period between watering but it likes to be intermediate/warm. Their culture is similar to Encyclia but the only thing that seperates them is the flower. Hope this helps!

The radiata gets to be a big plant with fairly large pbulbs. Mine is mounted so gets watered any day the sun shines in the g/h. It is a very easy grower.

Thanks for all the info, I put it in coco husk this weekend, since that's what my other encyclea loves. Almost had a heart attack though: When I pulled out the label it said "randii"! Luckily I had the vendor's number, so when I called him he said they made a mistake at the nursery, it is a radiata but it's just mislabeled. What a relief, I don't like randii...

I grow cochleata, not sure if it's the same or not but I would expect it to be. I grow cochleata in S/H and it seems to like that, although each time I repot (changing the pot size) all the roots die back and it has to start again. No idea why but it seems happy enough otherwise (happier than when I had it in bark).

Brooke, do you have this in small bark? My radiata and all my cochleata loved small bark. I had two cochleata in lava cinder and they really liked that. Nice flowers here. How warm do you grow it in the GH?

My radiata is mounted and the low temp in the g/h is 60.
I use Orchiata seedling bark for my cochleata and one other one I can't drag the name out of my memory cell right now.
