terracotta pots

Okay on another thread it was asked about drilling holes in glazed pots. Well mine ruptured....

My question is could you drill the holes and then dunk the pots in a outdoor paint to break up the colors just a bit? Or would that harm the plants...

Obv. Putting the plants in after they have thoroughly dried?
