Default Ctna. Jamaica Red "Sentinel"

Hi, I have Ctna. Jamaica Red 'Sentinel'. It just finished it's blooming & needs repotting. How do they do mounted? I see that it needs to dry out between waterings. Thanks. Love this forum.

Hi Lee, I don't grow this cross but being 75% Broughtonia sanguinea and 25% C. bicolor it'll probably love being mounted. My sanguinea lives in a basket and seems to like it pretty well.

I have several Ctna Brandi mounted. One on cork bark, one on large driftwood and one mounted on my palm tree. They are great. On the large driftwood 13 spikes last year, the cork 5 spikes, on the tree newly mounted this spring one spike. I purchased 2 of them mounted in 2008 and did not like the wood they were on and remounted them 2010. Mine are all outside year round since I'm in S. Fla. They get watered everyday May-Nov then every other day. Hope this helps.

Thank you Lorraine & Nat. I will try it on a grapevine. It is such a pretty flower.

I have found that although the grapevine wood looks really interesting it won't last as long for me. If you can get cork bark you won't get rotting and therefore less remounting. Just use a large piece for growth.

Any orchids crossed with Bro. sanguinea do great on mounts regardless of % of the cross. I mounted my Ctna. Why Not Red without any moss and within two weeks the plant had started to hold onto the treefern plaque and flowered on the same time with no aborting of the sheath , flowers, or spike. It is a robust plant.
