Hello again,

I was given what looks like an Oncidium. It growing outside the pot with bulbs on top of bulbs. Do I just break those off and put it into a small pot?

The previous owner said he had it for 3 years but never got it to rebloom for the last two years.

Single pbulbs may not do well. You can leave them as they are, or take divisions of 3 pbulbs. Most epiphytic orchids do have the habit of growing somewhat vertically - more pronounced in some.

I agree it still has room, but if it was in the same medium for 3 years plus there is a good chance the medium is breaking down. Also the pot doesn't seem to have really good drainage. I would repot in a slotted clear plastic pot of similar size. The condition of the roots would help determine the size of the pot. If the roots are good the same size is probably OK. If they are not you may want a more shallow pot or put packaging popcorn in the bottom.

Here is what I ended up with. I removed only one of the bulb since it was the only one growing in the opposite direct of the other. I know it might not servive but it will be an experiment.
