Happy I tried moss!
Because of the mess most store bought orchids come with moss wise I've avoided it.
But I'm happy I've tried it.
It's great for keeping my bark mixtures moist for longer.
But I was still afraid of using it on its own.
Decide to experiment on a few phals... turns out lightly packed moss dries very quickly in my home.
Which is very useful for me...
I was just excited about this lol... opens a whole new world of orchids.

Best way to learn what works for you is to try it!

FYI- If you just repotted, remember that the moss becomes more absorbant with time. It dries out quicly now, but will hold more and more water as time goes on.

That's great that you discovered something that works well in you environment. Since you're having success you should stick with it.

It's been about three months for the first one I repotted...I've just been tentatively awaiting new growth before I called it a success.
I know it will hold more moisture with time but so far it's drying out in about 2 days...
Which is alot faster than 7 days it takes with bark.

I'm learning that! Good thing there's lots of cheap plants to experiment on.

It dries out a bit quick for most of my orchids.
But this opens the door for alot more orchids that I couldn't have possibly owned with my other potting mixes.
I'm very excited!
My blue phal seems to prefer this quick wet to dry cycle over the other mix as well.

I grow my cyncnoids, bulbo, and burr. Nelly Isler in moss, some orchids in bark, some in red lava rock, and some mounted. Whatever makes the orchid happy!
