How do you construct Japanese sphag. moss ball pots?
I have a neofinitis falcata and a couple of sophronitis coccinea; I know both varieties like to be grown in cool areas. I also have looked at some japanese sites and noted that they grow these particular varieties in balls of sphagnum moss that are formed around the potting medium. They stated that these pots are cooler due to the evaporation of moisture from sphagnum moss. I really want to make these for my cooler growing plants. If anyone has tried this or knows how to construct these, please let me know. I looked on Youtube, and they show moss ball pots, but they are planted with ferns or other plants, not orchids. If there is a link that shows how to do this, please provide it as I really want to do this with several of my orchids.
Thanks everyone!
Steve
I've seen those balls (I think is the same) in the Vanda Alliance - Neofinetia forum, maybe someone from there can help you if no ones else here does
I was also interesting in how it was done
good luck
Again I am blown away with the assistance I find on the Orchid Board!! All of the members are great. Thanks for your links and input - I have already checked the vids and they are exactly what I wanted to see.
I will post some pics of my before -afters. I am going to plant Soph. coccinea and Neofinitia falcata; I really have several plants that would display well in this type of pot.
Again, can't thank everyone enough!

I've tried this method over and over again without much success, lol... They make it look so easy! I think practice and having good quality long strands of sphag are key for this. Let us know how it goes!
