Would this work for humidity loving dwarfs?

Hi everyone

I am wanting to get some dwarfs, like Psygmorchis pusilla or some others, I have yet to decide.

I was told something about some jars that RJSquirrel uses, I couldn't find much on that topic except a couple pictures but it worries me about root rot (I couldn't find info on setting it up, so sorry if it is fine )

I came up with an idea after reading some other post, what about using something like this just filled with more orchid bark and bigger holes?



I use them for my baby tarantulas So that is why there is stuff in that one. But I have more and could easily drill bigger holes for an orchid to be in it as a terrarium.

Would something like that work?

That would work. Just make sure to rig up a tiny computer fan in there so the is some air movement. Also would recommend growing under lights instead of a windowsill so you don't accidentally fry the plant... I speak from experience :-)

Computers are one of my many hobbies I build and work on many so I have extra fans. How would I rig one up to work in the terrarium?

I grow all my plants under artificial lighting

Ok, so here are the two containers I found I could use:
Container number one, a rectangular cube from hobby lobby:



Container two, a "betta tank" that I bought my rose hair tarantula in:





What would be better? I like the second one more as it gives more growth along the ground, while the first one would be better for taller plants.

And to add on, how would I do a computer fan?

Hello, Either container would work fine. As far as the fan, i drilled several holes in the lid and added brass tubing as spacers... to keep it a few inches away from the wall. The fan faces down and runs constantly. I attached the fan to a "multi fan controller" that i got from NewEgg and then used a plug in adaptor. Sorry... i'm not a computer person so i don't know the technical terms.

You might end up with hundreds of miniature orchids. Isn't it easier to control the environment if you use a bigger aquarium like 29 or 55 gallon?

i agree with going bigger. I built my terrarium out of a 36x24x24 exo terra so that i would have room to grow. Also, it is much easier to control humidity in that size space versus a tiny one like the container you show.

I wouldn't be able to have a larger terrarium with lighting, all of my extra space for larger tanks is being used by different tarantulas, scorpions, and beetles

What about a one gallon nano tank? Or maybe a medium sized critter keeper (a quick google search shows what I am talking about )

I will look around for a multi fan controller, that would be useful for my computers also

Here's my set-up, also much larger than you are contemplating, but there are also hundred of miniatures shown on the blog, though they are all cool growing.
