Re-potting to remove plastic Male
Default Re-potting to remove plastic

My question is in regards to repotting the same mix into the same pot. If you look closely at the mix, you will see a plastic wrapper, i'm assuming it's holding the bark around the root ball? I am considering taking the plant out, removing the plastic and putting the mix and plant back in. I am hesitant to do so because the plant looks incredibly healthy and has added 2 new leaves and 3 new roots (that I can see from the surface) since I have owned it, start of July 2012.

Given its healthy condition, is it advisable to unpot this plant in an attempt to get it to grow even faster?

Thank You

Have you considered lifting the plant out of the pot to look at the roots through the plastic? One of my Phals looked like that on the surface, but the roots were actually in soggy sphag.

That's exactly how I lost a plant last year. The inner pot was actually a small plastic basket packed with sphagnum, but it wasn't visible because it was covered with bark chips. When I got to it, it was already to late.
Unpot and check! A healthy plant shouldn't mind that.

As Findish and Val state, you need to see the media underneath and the condition of the roots.

That might be a plastic liner; if so, the pot is probably too large for the plant's roots.

I will check it tomorrow and let yall know. Thanks for the advice!

EDIT:

The plant is how you suspected. In plastic containing all of the roots and the pot would be too large if you took it out. Should I repot to a smaller pot or just say the heck with it and let the roots be free?
