Actually, I used to think the same thing about orchids "breathing in" only carbon dioxide, but apparently, they use both... I wish I could remember where I read this, and I can't remember if it applied to
all orchids, or if it was only about the
Phalaenopsis genus... (Or all plants??) That's really embarrassing that I can't remember!

But, I guess, either way, the opening allows air flow - it wouldn't only take in oxygen.. It would allow for carbon dioxide to flow in as well... But, yea, I agree that if they were to only breathe in carbon dioxide, a different name would be better
