Repotting paph.tigrinum

I am new to taking care of this species. I thought that the plants looked "wobbly" and the new roots were sticking out
so I took out the pebbles(?) on top and replaced them with
premium bark potting mix. I have this plant indoors, in a very bright spot, but with no direct sun.I keep the medium moist. Any suggestions will be appreciated as I don't want the plant to die on me. The plants are blooming size and one of the new growths is not doing well.

I only have a few Paphs, and haven't done spectacularly well with them, I'm sure others will be able to help.

Are you able to post photos? Did you completely repot the plant? If so, what did the roots look like?

Thanks for responding. I will try to post a picture. I am afraid to disturb the roots, so I tried to take out the rocks on the top, but the plants are sending out new roots, probably due to the new growths. I will continue to observe to see what happens.

It sounds like your tigrinum needs to be repotted - wobbly, roots sticking out, new growth not doing well - all scream that the medium is old, staying too wet, and the old roots are dead. ANYTIME a Paph isn't doing well, check the roots and repot, and always repot at least once a year.

Paphs shouldn't dry out completely. Water well, allow media to dry to the point of lightly moist before watering again. How often that is depends on many factors - temperature and humidity, the type of media used for potting, even the pot (material and size). I use skewers in all my orchid pots to help determine when to water.
