Aircone Pots

Hi all,

I've been contemplating if I should buy those clear aircone pots, such as Rands. I have had a aircone pot that came with an orchid I bought some years ago and I wasn't really too impress about it, overtime it tends to be brittle and break apart. Does anyone have any other experience or perhaps a certain brand that can withstand longer period of time? thanks!

I've gotten them from First Ray's and Kelly's Korner and I think they are great. Some are at least 4-5 years old and I've never experienced brittleness. I find them to be well draining and being square they don't tip over so readily. They are excellent for paphs, I just wish they made them deeper.

I use the round ones with a net basket that is placed inside and around the cone. To be honest, I'm sure they might make a huge difference to some orchids, but can't honestly say I've seen a dramatic difference in using it. They do drain well though.

I use several sizes of the Rand air cone pots. I get them from Quartre Acre Orchids in the U.S. I've only had them for a year, so too early to say if they get brittle. They still seem like new. I really like them for plants that need to dry out more in the centre. But a small net pot in the middle would achieve much the same thing. I like that they are clear, square and don't tip easily and while they are a bit more expensive, they are real sturdy material and the net pots I find are even more expensive so it's Rand Air cone pots for me!

I also use aircone pots for some of my larger phals that are in sphagnum. This prevents the center sphag mass from staying wet much longer than the exterior. If you're using moss on 4" or larger plants, I'd consider using them. It really helps even out the sphagnum drying.
As for the brittleness, I've had some for nearly 3 years, and haven't noticed anything. If I washed them off, they'd basically look brand new minus the scratches from general use.

I also really like the Rands air cone pots. I have used them for years and I have never had them become brittle.

They have worked great for me, using them on bulbos that I'm watering from the bottle and planting in spag. No problems!

I've been using Rand air cone pots on all my Paphs, Phrags, and some of my really large Phals with very good results. Most are 3-5 years old and still look new.

My air cone pots are round and approx 3" diameter.

These aircone pots are long lasting and clean up very well. If need be, you can even use just a tiny bit of bleach mixed in with some water to get them looking good as new.
