Default mini phal re-pot

Hi everyone,
I was given this orchid today. I think it was an ill thought mothers day gift, and she really didn't want to keep it and kill it. I happily accepted it. It even came with a tag. It's a Phal.Timothy Christopher.Mini white. Is that it's actual name or is that a general name? Is this a noid?
Anyway. It was in soaking wet sphagnum moss, packed very tightly in to the pot. I knew it was choking. I just repotted it.
I was amazed at how much wet moss was packed in that small pot. It took me 20 minutes to clean it all out. I think the roots are in pretty good shape. There were no slimy ones.
I got a picture of it's last flower.
What are it's chances of survival?

I think the chances of survival are good. You have plenty of healthy roots. Phal.Timothy Christopher is a good phal that is known for having lots of flowers. Breeders take species of phals found in the wild and cross breed them to try to get certain traits. When they get a plant that they like, they give it a name and register it. That's what you have, a registered hybrid.

I think you will be fine. If I were you I would repot and then check it again in 4 to 6 months. I am sure that some of the roots left will need to be taken off at that time, but you snould have some new ones growing by then. The plant was named after a Phd. by that name. He passed away a year or two ago. He was an expert in the field of orchids. What type of mix did you use to repot? If it was bark you should water often until the mix hs broken in. Your orchid was in a very high moisture mix, and the bark will be very different. Good luck, and it sounds like you have a very nice plant.

I would re-pot it for sure if there are no drain holes! It's likely in lots of tight wet moss and needs air to the roots.

Sphagnum moss doesn't have to soak for days! I just wet mine before I use it. It may already be breaking down if its been immersed in water that long. I would use the other things and possibly mix in a bit of the sphagnum if it is still OK to make the mix a bit more moisture retentive. That is if the plant was originally in pure sphagnum. wring it out well before using. This way the plant doesn't get such a shock going over to straight bark and other things that don't hold as much moisture.

The decision to repot into another medium depends on your watering habits.
