I've always wanted to grow masdies and draculars but my conditions aren't right. Not enough humidity and too hot at times in the summer (though not by much). I've been following the RJ style of net pots within glass bowls with a water reservoir at the bottom here on the OB. After a few weeks of planning I was finally able to amass the supplies and today I did the repotting. I couldn't find glass bowls with the right size openings, but I noticed that mason jars are just the right size. The metal rings hold the lip of the net basket in nicely for when you invert the jar for drainage. Here are the results. Fingers crossed, I hope they take.
I think it is a great idea. Finding ways to successfully grow certain plants/orchids can be quite a challenge. I love the net pots and can't imagine orchid life without them. : )
very ingenious...I love the idea of jars with lids...I guess this will work for my smaller Masdies...its my 2 other big Masdies that need a fishbowl(in a 5 inch pot and 9 inches tall)...I have only one Dracula and it is crawling in two directions so I am still finding ways to repot it
I would like to add that you will know when you have the right light and moisture magic when the moss starts to grow new sprouts and becomes living again
