Default I'm a beginner!!! Root rot treatment suggestions ?

Greetings orchid forum !!! I'm new to the orchid world and I love it !!!(:
I have three phals and then one day realized that one had a very sever case of root rot, I removed all the black roots or grey/ yellowish ones on the worst one , sprayed w daconil let sit for 1 hour , then removed and let sit in fertilized water for 1 hour and now is sitting in a clean batch of medium . The flowers are still quite alive but two leaves where yellowing and most roots were dead ... Will it make it ?

The secound one had some black spots and most roots were yellow so again I had to trim most of the roots ... Same treatment as above was followed .... Has lots of beautiful healthy blooms still and all leaves we're healthy... Did i trim too much ?...
Help !!!
Advice please

Good roots may be yellowish, white, or green, but will be plump and firm - rotted roots are usually grayish, blackish/brownish (tho good roots may be somewhat brownish, stained from bark) - rotted roots will be soft, mushy and/or hollow feeling, and the velum (outer covering of roots) will come off easily.

Allow potting media to become nearly dry before watering.

I can't say if your plants will make it - if there are good roots, there's a very good chance for them.

If you are able to - please post pix!

Good luck!

Since I don't have a smartphone I have no idea if it's possible to upload photos from phones.

Depending on how many roots are left, the plants may or may not make it. It's also important to make sure that they are potted in the smallest pots that the remaining roots comfortably fit. For instance, I had to improvise by using a yogurt pot (cut holes in the bottom) because there were so few roots. If the pot is too large, all that medium stays soggy way too long.

I post pics all the time from my iPhone. You need to download the app called "Taptalk" - and the rest is sweet, intuitive fun. I almost never view/use the OB from my computer anymore. Taptalk is so quick and so easy.

Good luck.

To post a new thread, go to the forum you are going to post the thread in then click the new thread button in the top left hand corner of the page.

I don't want to discourage you but just because your Phal is growing a spike and new buds doesn't mean they are healthy. Orchids can also be known to put out one last blooming before they die to try one last time to make offspring. When you are trying to figure out what roots are rotting or not just give each one a little squeeze and if it is firm they are good if they are squishy they are dead. If the plants don't get better or get worse I would cut the spikes all the way off. Blooming requires a lot of energy. If the plant is putting out a spike and/or blooming it is putting all its energy into those flowers and not putting the energy into new roots or new leaves. If you want to save your plant sometimes you have to sacrifice this round of blooms. If your plant has no roots and you want to save it I wouldn't wait, I would cut the spikes now. Of course the plants could make it too. So don't give up yet! Orchids are pretty hardy plants. Good luck and if you need some more help don't hesitate to ask!

Default I figured it out !

Thank so much for the information about the buds ... I'm not sure what they are doing they are just growing new buds still and the leaves look really healthy ? I've moved them to tiny little containers to support the little space they require .

On a different topic I've noticed that the one orchid I transplanted a couple weeks ago blooms are all of the sudden quite droopy ? I'm not sure what's causing this ? And that it's blooms have slowed down alot ?...
Any advice ?!
Thanks again !
