I have this Phal..very healthy and I'm at a loss as to if I should re-pot...the roots have gone wild...I have 3 like this...2 are spiking and one just finished blooming for 6 months!
Suggestions for re-potting...
do I wrap all those roots in the pot
do I leave some in and some out

Thanks

I would probably repot that, but personally I would leave some of the arial roots out, while tyring to put others in the pot.

What size pot you should use will depend on what you find in the existing pot. If the roots are as good in the pot as out, then you will need a bigger pot, however sometimes they can have good arial roots but poor roots in the pot, in which case, you don't want to go up too big, and that might affect how many you put in.

Soak the roots real well before you repot. That will make it easier to manipulate the roots into a new pot. I know we orchid growers hate to do it, but it really won’t hurt the plant if you need to trim some of the roots back by a few inches. It’s also OK to trim the bottom of the main stem. I agree with RosieC, I usually leave a couple aerial roots out of the mix also. Good luck.

A tip on getting roots into a pot without breaking all of them is to "screw" them in. The direction does not seem to make a difference.

Sit that plant, as it is, inside of an 8 inch slat basket and let the roots go where they want to go. The plant is super healthy. Don't try to train it !See the roots ? It's not particularly thrilled with whatever is in that pot or they'd dive right in !

myself when they grow out of the pot like this I pretty much leave them alone and just water easy and spary the roots with fert mix too ....if the medium is broke down bady I will repot into a huge pot and let them get big ...I know dont over pot ect ....phals do well for me in huge pots but I use rice hulls for phals and it breaks down super slow and drains like hydrotron at first and is hard to over water
