Should I repot this phal...
Just got this phal "Christina" a few days ago and I would like to see if more experienced growers think I should repot it...
It is in a 6' pot now, so if I repot, what size would you recommend?

I repot every new plant I get that way I know the root condition and I know I have fresh media. I also keep it separate from my other plants for a month or so just to make sure I have no 'surprises".
The pot size will depend on how many roots you clip off. Pot it into a pot that the roots just fit into.

Yes you need to repot that phal. You can use the same pot. But use a fresh media. I think that phal will still fit in that same pot after you clean it up and remove the dead roots.

Repotted..what do you think?
Did a repot last night....roots all looked good..went into a slightly larger pot

Looks great! Remember, new bark will for a couple months dry faster than the old media, and media in clay pots dries faster than in plastic.

You have potted it well. Looking at your location and growing zone: If it is outdoors then it can survive on the humidity in your atmosphere even if you just water it once a week...but as WhiteRabbit advised ... the new media dries faster and the pot itself will dry faster... you need to water more often until that time that the media retains more water.

Check to see if there are roots in the pot. If it from a dealer it may have been in the pot for some time. Check the tag and see if it's noted. Phals like to be re-potted yearly. Soak the roots so they are pliable when you re-pot.

Shouldn't the aerial rots stay out the pot? (are all those roots that were out of the pot in the first one aerial roots or just desperate!?)
I'm asking not because I think nanook did it wrong but because I have probably been doing it wrong...  |

Starla, I usually TRY to get the aerial roots into the pot if I can. Don't know if this is "right" but it is what I do.
