Is my Orchid getting propper air circulation
Default Is my Orchid getting propper air circulation

I'm excited to say that my orchid has been been flowerless now for a year but has recently produced 2 new leaves and is growing a flower spike. ACtually it's still growing the second leaf... anyhow totally exciting. My question though:

The pot my orchid is in is one of those clear plastic deals with the verticle slits for drainage and air flow. This pot was sitting inside a decorative glazed ceramic pot but I grew concerned that the roots might not be getting adequate air because the top rim, and only the rim, of the plastic planter sits snug inside the ceramic pot. Part of me thinks that might be intentional so that the excess moisture can drain out and collect in the bottom of the pot but then there is this other notion that maybe it wasn't getting enough circulation around the plant.

Can someone give their advice?

Dustin

Hi, If the ceramic pot does not have holes in the bottom I would remove the plastic pot , water sitting in the bottom is asking for rot . Or find one that has holes air is important . I don't use the ceramic pots at all for mine . . to the Orchid Board .. I see this is your first post

Hello!

so long as the outer decorative pot drains (hole in the bottom is sufficient) it should be fine, so long as you allow the media to become at least very nearly dry in-between waterings. If roots are green, no water. When the roots become white or silvery is when it's time to water.

Default hmm

Yeah the ceramic pot has no drainage holes at the bottom but the plastic planter doesn't sit on the bottom. It fills the pot up to the middle and just hangs suspeneded against the sides.
