Default Branding hole in pots

I had a delivery of clear plastic pots for an upcoming mega delivery of catts. I had also been looking air cones and rather than pay the extra I decided to make holes in the pots that had just arrived here. I heated a rod about 1cm and bored 6 - 8 holes, alternating between making holes an inch below/above the top/bottom of the pot respectively, this will allow more air in. I'm eager to see what my plants think of it. I think they'll like it.

cool

I have used small overturned net pots inside of pots - or when I don't have one the proper size, or I can't fit one in the pot, due to amount of roots, I tuck some styro pnuts into the center of the root ball

I lit up some charcoal and used an old drill. Took 5 times longer to light the charcoal than it did to burn the holes lol.

Just make sure you do this in a well ventilated area -- the smoke/fumes are not something you want to inhale.

Even outside, it's good to wear a mask. I now use my old hot glue gun. Not as much vapor, and a good excuse not to do crafts.

This is what I do. I use a 3/8" bit and a small torch to heat to bit. Spin the bit as I heat it in my cordless to evenly heat it. I used a spray bottle with water to see if it was hot.

Even though I love slotted plastic pots and net pots for many orchids, tall cattleyas can be a problem. Cattleyas can be top heavy and plastic is often too light to keep the plant upright. They fall over very easily. One solution is to put the plastic pot inside a clay or ceramic pot. You can also put plastic pot hangers on them and hang the pot up. Good luck.
