Repotting Babies! - Orchid Board

I have a question for all you lovely OB people -- can two plants be potted in the same pot? The two plants in question are two little Blc. Toshi Aoki "Pokai" orchids that are currently in 2" plastic pots. They're so top-heavy that I have to keep them propped up on other plants! I like the idea of potting them together for some reason.

What pros and cons are there for planting two orchids in the same pot?

the only "con" that I can think of - if one gets diseased (viral, fungal, bacterial), they both likely will

I do have a few '2 in 1 pot' orchids, 2 noid phals (they are the same), came that way, and didn't want to separate, so they remain together - and a couple where I had two small plugs of the same plant, potted them together. haven't had any problems

You can definately put them together in one pot. When planting them that way most people place them with the new growth going in opposite directions. Good luck.

If in the future you decide to separate them it can be done but you have to be carful.

Upside:
1. nice presentation esp. when they bloom
2. convenience of watering and culture
3. take up less space overall
4. cus u just wanna do it and it's nice to get what u want

Downside:
1. they will share disease if it occurs
2. their roots will grow intertwined and could create some difficulty if you wished to separate them down the road
3. larger plants can be difficult to repot
4. if they bloom nice enough that you want to submit for judging, you cannot because it must be ONE plant

you can do anything that you want to there is no actual reason that two orchids can not share it a pot if they are the same in general.Unless they have different cultural needs,Or as stated you intend to show them.

At the moment I have severl identical chids in the same post since they are tiny yet and just out of compots basicly....and lol I am out of new hydrotron to pot them in at the moment,they will live together untill its warmer and a bit bigger
