Wild harvested tree fern? Why not grow your own?

I planted several Cyatheas aka Queensland tree fern, around my yard when we moved here. After about five years one upped and died so I harvested the trunk and sawed it into slabs and now have orchids growing on them.

This species (not sure of name) has hard blackish 'wood' and can still be readily found in the wild. They are fast growers.

Must be a different species.

My understanding is that attempts to "farm" it in Central America have had mixed results, as the plants took 10-15 years to mature.

I really like EcoWeb and Epiweb. They are almost my favorite use of recycled polyester bottles - padded bras and pillows come first.

I was having a look at the Epiweb specifications "Made of 70% recycled plastics".
So it's only partially eco-friendly, where's that other 30% coming from? Freshly extracted fossil carbon?

Not sure about the scale but the fibers looks way thicker than epiweb and it's the question whether the plastic repels or attract water.
I actually visited the founder of Epiweb a few months ago. Saw some really nice Epiweb systems for extremely demanding plants. Apparently he's got a new material coming up.
I have a small Epiweb system myself that waters itself but I've found it hard to get the watering right. Seems easy to over water, especially if you have some Sphagnum around your plants.

Looks similar to epiweb to me. Not sure how the colour is applied though and if that would be a problem.
