I bought a myrmecatavola frances online. When I received, I cleaned the roots and they seem to all be dead. I emailed the shop and she said this:
Those are older part. They won’t make new roots till next growing season. The new growths will make new roots though. That’s what you need to focus on. Cattleya types always dumps its older roots when divided. Keep it in humid area to encourage rooting.

I would love to make sure this orchid grows, any suggestions on success?

You cut off living roots. In the future, don't cut off any roots.

For now, pot it and use a rhizome clip to hold it firmly on the surface of the medium. When it begins new growth it should form more roots. Before then, water the remaining roots when they become dry.

Some people would leave it bare root, and place it somewhere warm and humid, watering regularly.

I am wondering why you think those roots were living, they were completely mushy and rotten.

Are you saying to try water culture, I have been successful with that before?

Those roots do not look rotten. They look alive to me. I believe some or most were alive. There are lots of videos available showing people cutting off roots wildly, saying they're dead. I think those people don't know what they're doing.

I don't recommend water culture ever, unless your home is much warmer than most people prefer.

The plant will need to survive until it makes more roots. The environment it needs is high humidity, warmth, bright shade, and watering of remaining roots soon after they dry. You can pot it now. Or, you can put it somewhere in that sort of environment until it begins rooting, and pot it then.

Treating with a rooting promoter like Kelpak would probably help. It is available from First Ray's.

It must be the picture, I have a lot of orchids and have never had roots so bad, they were dead as can be.

Are you saying leave bare rooted? I could put in my warm room next to humidifier. should I put some spag moss around it?
I am just unsure of how to plant, I don't want it to rot

I will get some Kelpak.

funny I just looked up Kelpak, I just bought a bottle of that, so I have it. Have not had a chance to use yet.

How often should I use the kelpak? weekly?
