When I first potted this after getting it in the mail, it had black spots on most all the leaves. The healthier looking leaves you couldn’t see them as well yet. Now, I tried treating it with a type of neem oil base concoction that was suppose to help with funguses also. It did wind up losing all its leaves and has now started to produce new ones. My main question is does anyone think I may still have the black spot problem?

It appears to be an oncidium of some sort, and they are known to get spots on the leaves. It's apparently not a pathogen, but more likely something of cultural origin, so you should not try to treat it with a pesticide.

Looks like you'll be losing that new growth, thanks to the rot at the base.

Thanks Ray, you are defiantly right of the type.What. I hate is giving up on it, I did spray with a copper base fungus spray which has helped with my zygo.

Oncidiums need to stay moist all the time. The pseudobulbs are shriveled, which shows either root loss or not getting watered enough. Lack of water also causes ugly spots on leaves, and loss of both leaves and new growths.

Most people wouldn't use large bark for Oncidiums because it retains so little moisture and needs to be watered more often.

Did you repot it? The time to repot is when new roots first appear. Repotting damages Oncidium roots because they are so fine. If you do it when new roots are just forming, the plant will quickly be able to take up water and will grow on without a pause. Repotting at the wrong time leaves a plant with trouble taking up water until the next time it makes roots.

If you live near Houston you have high humidity combined with hot temperatures, so your plants are more susceptible to fungus than plants in less wet conditions. But the best way to aboid fungal problems is to have otherwise healthy plants.

Another issue is that some Oncidiums don't tolerate high temperatures. If you were growing this one outside it might be one of those.

I do live South of Houston,but my property has a large number of coastal oak trees, and if you aren‘t familiar with these, they drop the temp. Of my yard 10-20 far. Thats why I moved here. I also get several inches of rain a year, and lots of wind.I am building a greenhouse on my front porch and will set it up with air flow
