Ideal time for potting any orchid is when new roots are just starting. Fortunately, this is the time of year when most of them are actively growing and rooting.
Well I’ve made another change(my bad) I have decided I like the red lava rock better than the bark, always was a person who has trouble making up my mind. It’s seems always too late too One of the reason although not even the only one is the little bit heavier weight. Also no decomposition, ect.
More on this later, probably a different thread.
Don't feel bad about changing your mind about medium! Orchid-growing is a learning process, not something that comes ready-made out of a box. You will experiment around to find the media (plural) that work in your environment for the various types. Just do go slow on re-doing those that might be starting to establish. You can make your change next year or the year after. Patience, patience. A plant will suffer a lot more if it is moved to a different medium at the wrong time than it will being in a less-than-ideal medium for a growing season.
