Default Finding the RIGHT pot

Oh the joy of Finding the RIGHT pot! This phal was in need of help and I couldn’t find the right narrow clay pot. The classic clay sizes we see everywhere were too small at 6” and way too much media volume for the next larger size. Anyhow, those old florist shops with attached greenhouses always have the odd shaped clay pots that have been recycled for decades and decades. Finally found the perfect narrow clay.

The roots were good at the bottom of this phal, lost middle roots to sphagnum wetness rot and then the phal pushed many roots at 4 “ above the pot surface. Giving it the palm- tree phal look until I potted it deeper in a new pot. If you ever had struggling vandas then you know the palm tree look

i have a trick i learned a while ago, not my creation, but when you canont find the right pot - get a small plastic pot and flip it over in the middle-- it takes away a ton of the internal volume and viola, correct size pot
