Likelyhood of growing from pseudobulb
Default Likelyhood of growing from pseudobulb

Last fall I repotted a Mtdm Pacific Paragon "Honey Butter" and in the process the oldest pseudobulb fell off. It was rootless but otherwise appears to be healthy. So I potted it up and it has been 9 months with no real change. I keep it watered regularly and in a sunny window. So I am looking for someone else's thoughts. Will it grow or am I on a fool's errand?

It’s still alive after 9 months. I’d be keeping it just to see what happens.

The new growth might come from the apex of the pseudobulb. That has happened a few times here.

If that happens, unless your relative humidity is high enough to support aerial roots, when the roots are long enough, either lay the pseudobulb sideways so they can find the medium, or wrap some sphagnum around the roots until the plant is big enough to snip off and pot separately.

so #1- dont repot most orchids unless you see new growth or NEED to bc of an emergency.

this bulb very well could grow. i would keep it a little more buried in the medium and maintain ideal conditions and you should get some growth

All of your responses gave me a good chuckle. So a little more background. When it fell off it stayed in a bin I use to hold media for about a week. When it looked fine after the week I decided to pot it up just to see what will happen. While it looks like it is planted shallowly it really is about 1.5 inches deep in the pot.
So I think I will continue with seeing if it will grow. I have better odds on it growing then buying a winning lottery. Maybe, if it hasn't done anything by next year I'll do what I do with other plants that are not thriving. Repot, then tell it that it has 6 months to turn its life around if it wants to stay. Works for about half the orchids I do this with.
