Community pot repotting
Default Community pot repotting

I have a comm. pot of BLC Rustic Spots. I want to move the plants into separate pots. They are small but filling up the comm. pot. Would repotting each one into 2" net pots or 2" regular plastic pots with sphagnum moss be OK or should I repot them into a bark mixture? I was leaning towards sphagnum. Based on their sizes I thought 2" pots would be the best choice although could go with 3" slotted pots.

Thanks!

It depends on the size of the plants and your experience with the medium. Both can be used. I think net and slotted pots dry out too rapidly for seedling use unless your growing area has very high humidity.

Have used both a bark mixture as well as sphagnum moss. Humidity not high so will stick with 2" or 3" regular plastic pots. I'm thinking of doing a bark/pumice mixture or bark/LECA mixture or maybe just trying different media in a few pots to see what might work best (bark/pumice, bark/LECA, sphagnum, etc.)

Your growing conditions and watering capabilities determine your pot & media selection as much as, if not the plant.

Seedlings require the same conditions as the adults, BUT are far less tolerant of deviations.

You described a 4-step “spectrum” ranging from airy, dry, and fast drying (bark in net pot) to bark in plastic, to moss in net, to the other end - wetter and slower drying (moss in plastic). By mixing the media components, you can “fine tune” it further, making it good for them and easier for you to care for.
