RJSquirrel method reimagined
I saw this method posted by RJSquirrel and i wanted to try it because it is attractive and i think it might help with a niche of plants that are not thriving for me
i like the notion of the water occupying the various areas and moving around without leaving and i tries a net pot (the Original idea) and a small clay pot
the vases and pot are from dollar tree, sphag is Besgrow
i am curious to see if the conditions are going to be wet enough or if i will have to also water it
i took a sad aeranthes and a sad masdi for test pigs.
flickr is not allowing me to get the codes for posting so the pics will be added later

In the first photo, is that LECA or some other inorganic in the bottom? And what is the watering method? I have a vase very much like this.

I'd personally go beyond that and put that net-pot at least 1/2 into the water. The Sphag moss will get "sour" and that will effect the plant. Maybe try something like rock wool.

The idea is that the water stays there and I don’t have to do much. It will seep up and then condense down. That was the method squirrel used.
I am mostly experimenting but I like the idea of creating a somewhat closed system around the roots. It intrigued me and that led to this
It is lava rock and leca on the bottom.

Following this... I'm getting ready to do an à la RJSquirrel as well. IF I can ever find the right size vessel.
I am also seriously thinking about using a regular SH glass container, making the hole bigger, then putting a small rubber cork in the hole. Then if I have to add water and get too carried away, I can just pull the plug.

Can someone link me to RJSquirrel's post on this? I have looked, but he has 500 posts to wade through.

Look at recent Maxillaria rodrigueza thread by Jeff. Discussion there, plus ES gives the link to RJSquirrel one.

I’d give ya link but I’m on cell in the back forty… too cumbersome right now. Edited to add link for anyone interested. Especially so I can find it again.

So a question… I have the right vessels, pots already in/on them. They are building up humidity that falls down and recycles as anticipated. I didn’t put any extra spagh into it. Just LECA and RO water at base. Why would the extra spagh in the vessel matter?
