Large Lysudamuloa Red Jewel - Divide, Repot, Leave it? Male
Default Large Lysudamuloa Red Jewel - Divide, Repot, Leave it?

Hi. I'm new to this forum but not new to orchids. I am new to growing Lycastes, and I've had a Lysudamuloa Red Jewel hybrid for about 5 years now. It started with three pseudobulbs and after up-potting it each year, it has grown quite large (see photo). It produces numerous flowers a couple times per year and I really enjoy it. I don't want to divide it if it's not necessary, but I'm wondering how to move forward with it? Should I leave it this pot or continue to increase the pot size as it grows? Anyone have any experience with large Lycastes or have any advice on how to move forward with a larger plant?

Thanks!
Brenton

You're only limited by your strength and growing space. I like huge plants. Others don't.

Default Thanks!

Thanks for the reply. I’d like to keep it going without dividing if I can. Would you suggest I keep up-potting it? If so, should I try and find a wide, shallow pot?

Yes, I'd keep up-potting. I'd use a pot of whatever depth seems best for its roots, and not one shallower. A plant like that will use a lot of water during the growing season, and a too-shallow pot will dry out too fast.
