Fungus and repotting
Default Fungus and repotting

This is a new pot of orchid. But I found the white fungus inside the barks. It will be a pain to repot. Please advise if it is recommended to repot everything because of these white things? Are they infectious to my other orchids?

I would not repot for only that. I can think of three ways to go about combating that:
  1. Regularly apply a plant probiotic. It will quash the growth of such molds while simultaneously making the plant stronger. Quantum-Total (also sold as Quantum Orchid) and Inocucor Garden Solution will both be effective - go with whichever has the cheapest delivered price.
  2. Water thoroughly with water containing the label-recommended rate of Physan.
  3. Do the same, substituting 1 ounce per gallon liquid bleach.

Thanks Ray,
The orchid in the pot is a zyo starting to grow a spike. Will bleach (only thing I have in addition to hydrogen peroxide) be too harsh and retard the spike growth?

I couldn't wait so used chopsticks to pick out as many chips with white stuff as I could, give a light spray of hydrogen peroxide on surface of that section and said a little prayer. Waited 10 minutes and rinsed the whole pot and plant with running water. Then, "fill in" the hole with dry barks and topped it with moss and watered again. I plan to remove the moss after a while when the new barks got moisted enough.

Anything else I need to do? When do I fertilize? The new growth you see here is what I am trying to baby.
