C. Lulu Land

C. Lulu Land is quite readily available here, and is one of the spotted catts. The name is a bit strange ..... like La La Land haha.

Bulbs growing out of of pots and flowering is not unusual for catts. The humidity around here is usually ok, and the bulbs can do ok with the colony backing it. While probably not really needing it, I will later put it into a larger pot. Same size media will be used for this one ---- 10 to 15 mm average diameter scoria.

Bifoliate?
I also have a bifoliate spotted Catt and I always need to rotate the basket in the gowth's early stages so that it grows straight and to the derection I want. Most of the time it works.

rbarata ----- thanks for sharing that technique of rotating during early growth stages. Sounds workable and I'll remember that one and use it. Thanks for teaching that one! Excellent tip!!

You must be always vigilant and monitor constantly the growth direction and change it accordingly.
I don't know about yours but mine grows fast...in a week it grows 10 cm and when I rotate in two days it's noticeable a change in the growth direction.

Rbarata ----- thanks for showing those pics! Normally, the only orchids I rotate pot angle are for catasetums - to make their growth go upwards instead of going one direction toward the light ---- and ends up getting a very unbalanced pot.

I'll definitely try the rotation with the C. Lulu Land ------ to try switch its direction of rhizome growth. It is one direction, and does grow reasonably quickly ..... or at least the rhizome seems to extend relatively quickly. This is one of those things with catts like that hahaha. Definitely going to try the rotation method ----- I think it will be good. Thanks for mentioning that one!

Growers of spotted catts will already know about the spotted flower buds. Although ------ maybe not enough spotted bud pics out there at the moment seen online.

So some spotted bud pics are just added here ----- getting closer to the bud of a C. Lulu Land.

Without flash photography, the colours are a drab dull olive green, sort of like army green camouflage.

The colour come up more with a flash. But the drab olive colour is what we usually see with our eyes - in the shade.

Is this the first time it blooms for you?

rbarata ----- it will be the first time for flowering for this one! I have two plants of these - about the same size. This one made it to flowering first.

I'm not sure if this will happen to yours but in some cases there's a degradation of the spots as the blooms age.
