Default Unruly Cattleya repot

Hey all!

One of my most recent acquisitions, a Pot. Golden Dancer 'NN', is in desperate need of a repot. It's a lovely plant in a 3.5" pot, with at least 25 canes that I've been able to count and it majorly climbing out of the pot.

I'm thinking the best route with this one is to just remove best I can from the pot and put it into a 6" basket and let it roll from there.

Wondering if need to do anything more than that? I could look at trimming old/dead roots to "clean it up" a little but is all that stress on the plant necessary? This is my first foray into a project like this and any suggestions would be welcomed. Photo attached!
