I use compressed cork board quite a bit for mounts, mainly for small/miniature orchids grown indoors. They hold up well to constant wetness, and seem to have good longevity. Very easy cutting to size (and/or various shapes), along with making holes for mounting wire.
I don't know how it would work out with mounting larger sized orchids, or how well it would hold up outdoors long term (or with rough handling). I have a tendency to use cork bark, or wood, in those situations.
